I am preparing to build a steel kiln shed for my small temporary kiln, so I can fire in the rain and snow this winter. It will be a rain guard and heat deflector, and will increase my storage space by 50% for work in progress. Geri and I will drill the post holes within the next week or so, and hopefully it will be functional by the new year.
I have made my first three tea sets in a decade. The third set (in purple with celadon trim) is cooling in the kiln now, and will be out tomorrow morning at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.
We have been working on several new products and glaze effects, and developing new procedures to fire larger pieces in our little kiln. We hope to bring out pottery on the road more frequently in the new year. For a look at highlights of the first 2 of 3 firings this week, see the slideshow below.
